Lost River Gorge & Boulder Caves-- Loon Mountain Trip Part #2

As soon as we checked into our hotel and grabbed a delicious sandwich from the White Mountain Bagel company we decided to head over and check out the Lost River Gorge and Boulder Caves.

Never having been there we weren't sure what to expect.

We bought our passes and started right onto the trail. Much of it is wooden stairs and walkways suspended over the river and wet ground surrounding the lost river gorge.

Periodically along the trail there are caves to explore.  Two of the caves were shut down while we were there because the water table was high and they were flooded.  Even the ones we did go inside often were cold and wet.  Spaces were tight and I'm not ashamed to admit I chickened out on going through a few of them after almost getting stuck on my hands and knees.  I was not about to lie down on my stomach and pull myself through like my husband and a few other brave souls did.

Everywhere we went we heard the sounds of running water and saw some really amazing looking r…

Where We Stayed, Ate and Explored-- Loon Mountain Trip Part 1

My husband and I waited until the week before Memorial Day to book a little getaway for just the two of us.  We finally settled on visiting Loon Mountain and stayed at the RiverWalk.  It was an amazing hotel!

We booked a studio suite.  We had a queen bed, pullout sofa, flat screen TV, a small table  chair set and even a cute little kitchenette.

Not knowing how the weather would be, we picked this resort because of all its' amenities: a heated pool and hot tub, exercise room, arcade, on- site restaurant, spa.. the list goes on and on.  We even learned that you can ask at the front desk for games and sporting equipment!  They had two and three bedroom suites too that would have been perfect for the whole family.

Luckily we had beautiful weather all three days and spent most our time out and about ex…

Friday Favorites-- Home Improvement Edition

We had a pretty quiet week at home.  All three boys have been fighting off summer colds (or perhaps a really bad allergy flare up?! It's hard to tell).  I didn't mind spending more time at home though as I got so much done around the house.

It was a beautiful, hot, sunny day on Friday and after a quick trip to the grocery store, I kicked myself and the younger two boys outside for the day.  Ian was at work for the whole day with his dad and grandfather and I spent much of my afternoon reading a book and relaxing by the lake. I did manage to get a bit of planting and gardening done before my mom stopped by to visit with us. Relaxing days like this are why we take a summer break from schooling.

Evan asked to go for a kayak ride on Saturday.  We spent part of our morning lazing around the lake.

My husband and I went out for a date night!  I wore my new Amazon top. We said to heck with the points and ordered whatever we wanted .  For me it was steak, stuffed shrimp and mashed pot…
