Weekly Wrap- Up: It's Beginning To Look a Lot Like Christmas

We had lots of fun decorating for Christmas this week and I think we're pretty much done now.  We tackled a few craft projects and finished up another couple science experiments.  We're doing really well on getting most of schoolwork done each day and I feel pretty good about most every subject.  I'm realizing we need to find a new history topic or two to tackle this year but am waiting for inspiration to strike and I'd like to add in few more field trips over the next couple of weeks but other than that we can't complain at all about our week or our school year so far.

Following our yearly tradition we put up the tree and almost all the Christmas decorations on Friday.  I say mostly because I tossed quite a few decorations and wrote up a list of things I am going to look for to replace them with.  As the boys get older I am slowly converting our decorations over from plush and kid friendly to more mature and breakable.  We also used the sunny, dry weather to finally stack wood down back on our patio for the long, cold winter it's shaping up to be already. My mother in law come over to help decorate the tree and we played Yahtzee Free for All.

I spent a quiet day at home on Saturday dividing my time between helping my husband design some snowflakes for the new stocking holders he's making us and working on fixing some of our old holiday decorations and making them match our new decor.  Ian was gone to work with his grandfather for just about the whole day.  Evan ended up helping at the machine shop and cut out one of the snowflakes (with my husband's help of course).  We ended our night with a walk in the woods and some take out Chinese.

Sunday Ian and my husband headed to the woodworking shop for a bit before my husband came home to take the younger two boys to see the new Fantastic Beasts movie.  I had worked on some more Cricut gifts most of the morning and spent my afternoon doing a bit of shopping.  I could not believe how crowded all the stores were!  Guess I should have expected that.  We ended our night walking through Amarante's Christmas Lights.

We spent the day at home on Monday.  We made some orange rind bird feeders and Alec made a loom band bracelet.  The boys got all their schoolwork done for the day and it was actually nice enough outside for a little walk.  The younger two boys played outside most of the afternoon.

Alec had karate on Tuesday morning and the boys managed to get all their schoolwork done by the time we had to leave the house.  I did some holiday shopping while Alec was in class and we stopped at the library and Dunkin Donuts on our way home.  The younger boys spent a good part of the day outside once again while I wrapped a few more gifts.

We got a late start to our schoolwork on Wednesday.  I wanted to get grocery shopping out of the way first.  The boys settled right to work when I got home and we finished in record time.  After they finished their book work we attempted a few science experiments.  We learned about the reaction between iodine and starch, fluoride and tooth decay, and how antiperspirant works (all three experiments should be up on the blog soon). The younger boys went outside after lunch and played for a long time; despite how cold it was.

We had another quiet day at home planned for Thursday but Ian ended up heading to work last minute and was gone most of the day. His brothers were disappointed that they still had to do their schoolwork.  I did try and add some fun to our day though.  We strung cranberries and popcorn to decorate one of the bushes near our front door and finished reading Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium then headed to the library to pick up the movie for us to watch on Friday in place of our traditional schoolwork.

How was your week?

    1. Yep, I like to wrap as I go. I am not a big fan of wrapping so tackling it in little jobs here and there makes it a bit more manageable.

    1. The only thing I did think of as we decorated the bush with cranberry and popcorn was that I really hoped we weren't encouraging the deer to come even closer and eat even more of our bushes. Last year they ate every leaf off every plant we had left in our garden EXCEPT for the one we just decorated...
