Weekly Summary-- The Week We Lost Our Power; Twice!

We had what the weathermen called a rain Nor' Easter sweep through our area on Friday and we lost power with the high winds.  We watched the waters rising with the additional 3 or so inches of rain we got.  It has been quite the wet winter here and most rivers and ponds are filled to capacity.  Then we got more snow and rain all day Wednesday into Thursday and lost power again!

We did manage to work on some fun floral projects.  The younger two boys found some fake flowers at the dollar store and wanted to try their hand at flower arranging. I think they did an awesome job!

We spent a couple of days curled up with books and hand held electronics to pass the time.  Good thing I had just bought Evan a new Pokemon book! He sat and read, and read.. it was amazing to me since I know I really doesn't like to read.

Alec and Evan using the book and poster to learn even more about Pokemon

We went to the library on Saturday to take advantage of their heat and Wi-Fi and were so thankful when the power came back on in the middle of the night.  Those crews sure work hard!

We had a family outing to the Slater Mill in Rhode Island and learned a bit more about the history of the industrial revolution. (I have a full post on this scheduled for  Sunday so come on back and check it out).

We spent the afternoon driving through the four wheeler path we have in the woods and chopping up trees that had fallen and were blocking the path.  It was quite the wild ride through the woods!

We went to the woodworking shop one night and Ian is just about finished his new turtle tank stand.  he learned how to use the router to round the edges of the table top and spent a lot of time sanding it.

The boys begged me to read up on how to add vinyl to mugs and bowls so we could decorate some plain white bowls we had bought.  We spent a fun afternoon figuring out what to do and we just love our bowls (I'll have a full post on how we did this on Thursday)!

We had a snowstorm Wednesday into Thursday and once again lost power; thankfully it was only off overnight and our power was restored bright and early in the morning!  Ian headed off to work with his father to help with shoveling, plowing, and snow removal.

How was your week?

    1. Thanks! We do have some nice views; which helps make up for living in the boonies and always losing power. LOL. I'm currently looking into iron on vinyl so we can try our hand at decorating our own t-shirts.

  4. You did a great job of keeping busy despite your power outages. Your vinyl transfers look wonderful, did you use a cricuit to cut the vinyl? I have used it for fabric but not on crockery #weekendbloghop

    1. I did use the Cricut to cut out the vinyl. We just ordered some iron on vinyl to try it on some fabric.

  5. What a challenge! Your heart must have sunk when the power went out the second time. Good thing it came back on quickly that time.
I always enjoy seeing the things your family does.

    1. It really did and mostly because I figured we'd be without it for a few more days (in fact I know quite a lot of people in our area that are still without it). We have lots of trees and limbs down and many roads are still closed too. I'm so thankful that ours was restored quickly. It's not fun living without power for long periods of time in the winter-- it gets pretty cold! :)

  7. We lose our power quite often due to wind, which can be a drag. Looks like you guys made the most of it! Love the floral arranging your boys did - so pretty! Have a great weekend and hope there are no more outages!

  8. I LOVE the bowls. You all do so many wonderful things. We are considering coming to the Boston area during spring break. My husband is concerned about all the weather, but I think it would be fun even if the weather is less than stellar. I am glad you got your power back.
    Blessings, Dawn

    1. Living just about an hour away from Boston you'd think we would visit often but honestly it seems like every time we visit it's the middle of winter and while we are quite cold moving from place to place there is still so much to do there and it's a lot of fun. I do keep thinking we'd like to go one nice spring day and walk the freedom trail though.

    1. It is hard without power but I'm getting to the point where I'm almost getting used to it. We have another large storm in the forecast and I just hope maybe we can make it through a week with power. :)

  11. Hi, having bad weather is one thing, but constantly loosing power must make it so much worse... The secret of enjoying a book is finding one we want to read, your son certainly looked settled with that Pokemon book... You've really transformed that white crockery, your boys did a good job.

    1. Thanks! We are starting to get to the point where we just expect to lose our power with any storm... but it is never fun. I do try to find them books they want to read and I just love when I manage to find something that captures their interest. He was so surprised when I offered to buy it for him and I think I even said "Of course, it's a book!" LOL.
