Magic Wings Butterfly Place

We took a trip on Friday and our first stop was the Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory and Gardens.

We had an amazing time!  The gardens were lush and full and so warm it made me think of being in a tropical jungle or rainforest (or rather what I imagine those places might feel like).

We went through to the gift shop to pay our admission fee and then entered the first room which taught us a bit about butterflies but also had frogs, lizards, stick & leaf bugs, beetles and more.

We then walked through the door into the butterfly gardens and there were butterflies everywhere!  They would land on us occasionally even.  We saw so many different kinds and colors; it was amazing.  The room was filled with plants of all sorts and such beautiful, colorful flowers too!

Mixed in with all the plants and butterflies we also saw turtles, birds, and lizards.

I know Evan looks unimpressed in this photo but he and Ian have already started plotting to get his father and I to buy them their own pet lizard; I guess they really liked these guys!

  1. I was a bit of a butterfly nerd as a child and knew so many varieties off by heart. I still think their colours are extraordinary. What a great place to visit and appreciate them. #ExplorerKids

    1. My only wish was that the place had more placards with the names of the butterflies and a bit of information about them like where they're usually found and their lifespan. The variety was so neat to see though and I just could not get over all the colors and patterns.

  2. Beautiful photos. I really do love butterflies. We went to the butterfly house at London Zoo last year and it was such an amazing sight. Sarah #ExplorerKids

    1. It was so neat to get up close with them plus it was so warm inside the greenhouse it felt like taking a trip to the tropics.. in the middle of winter.

    1. I told him to research all the different types of lizards and if he could find one that we don't have to feed live bugs to that I would consider it but no way am I bringing bugs into the house. I could not get over all the colors and styles of butterflies. The glass wing ones are also known as Greta Oto and they were pretty amazing.
