Art Project #58-- Strand of Light Drawings

We took a break from Christmas crafting and decided to try a fun drawing activity.  I had found these neat Christmas light chalk drawings on Pinterest and thought they looked fun and easy.

It was a fun addition to our 100 Days of Art and it was pretty easy too.  All in all I would say we completed this project in under 30 minutes.

All you need is some black construction paper, colored chalk, thin cardboard or paper to make a stencil, a pencil and a silver marker or gel pen (though I bet a white colored pencil would work well too).

To get ready I used a cereal box to make some stencils.  I drew 4 ovals with a flat side and cut them out.

We then used black paper and drew a wavy line that was our strand of light.  Using chalk we held the light bulb stencil near the line and colored all around the outside of our stencil.  Then we'd pick up the stencil and smudge the chalk just a bit using a cotton ball.  We just wanted to make it look like the bulb was glowing.

When we were done chalking the bulb we used a silver marker (or gel pen) to trace over our pencil line and add a few small rectangles under the bulb as the attachment that holds the bulb to the strand.

You can see some blurred and others just traced here.

In this picture the rectangles showed up quite well so you can see what I mean.
