Homeschool Weekly Wrap- Up; The Week We Went to Block Island

Reading:  Ian finished up New Year Dragon Dilemma and started reading The Castle Crime.  Alec read Operation Orca, Secret Admirer, Adventures According to Humphrey and he started reading House of Robots.  Evan read a few more chapters in Dragon Masters book 1 and read Koalas. We finished up The Lost Hero and In Too Deep.

Spelling:  The older boys have been playing a lot of Hangman on the Kindle and all three boys worked on two more pages in their spelling workbooks.

Math:  Ian made another bank deposit; adding up his money and writing out his bank slip.  He also brought his money to the store to buy himself a few things figuring out how best to spend his money and making sure he did not go over his budget.  All three boys worked on several more pages in their math workbooks this week.

Geography:  We spent a day visiting Block Island and had fun checking out the old pictures displayed in many of the shops.

Science/ Engineering:  The boys tried designing their own floats using pool noodles, twine, zip ties, bubble wrap and anything else they could find around the house that they thought might work.  It was so much fun!

Ian also started putting together his second EEME kit.  He's having such a great time with these kits and I just love that he is able to easily follow along on the videos and do everything on his own.

Family time/Socialization:  We spent lots of time with family this week.  My mother, sister and nephews came to visit on Friday.  On Saturday we helped my husbands grandfather clean up his yard and take down some old trellises and sheds.  We went to the movies to see The Secret Life of Pets and ran into more family members there unexpectedly! On Sunday my father and grandmother came to visit.  We had friends over to play as part of a going away party on Tuesday.

Art:  We had some fun with wood burning this week and Alec started taking a stained glass class with a neighbor who offered to teach him.

  2. What an amazing week! I love how homeschooling gives us the flexibility to have our own schedules so we can have fun field trips, and spend time with family. That is so important! Thanks for sharing with #SocialButterflySunday, my friend! Hope you have a great week :)

    1. I don't always think we take as much advantage as we should in being flexible with our schedule but during the summer I really try and break out of our routine and enjoy the nice weather as much as possible.

  3. What a great idea for a post; a way to encourage other homeschoolers through sharing your own homeschool activities. I would have loved something like this when I homeschooled many years ago!

I have lived in Rhode Island for 33 years and have yet to go to Block Island! I need to get on that! lol.

    1. I have yet to make it to Nantucket... and just made it to Martha's Vineyard last year. I finally decided these three islands needed to make it onto our list of things to do. It sure was a lot of fun and I think my boys really enjoyed our day (especially when the alternative was a more traditional day of school!).
