The highlight of our day

We've been taking it easy this week and not doing any "real" schoolwork yet.  Alec had been feeling under the weather this weekend and I didn't want to push him to do to much.  He was feeling pretty good yesterday and we did some much needed grocery shopping.  We picked up my mom on our way home and she visited with us for the day.  The boys invited her to play their own version of gaga ball in the playroom using the walls and furniture to bounce the balls off of.  They watched TV and played video games too.  I found Alec reading through his Pokemon guidebooks looking for information on the various Pokemon characters in order to help him beat the level he was on.  The other two boys were often found snuggled together on the couch or the chair playing the same Minecraft game & working together to plan their homes and find the materials they needed.  The boys got me to read a chapter in Harry Potter at dinner and they all read books and listened to more stories at bedtime too.
This morning I, once again, planned to give them the day off.  They had karate today and then we were going to visit my grandmother.  The highlight of their day and probably their week was easily karate.  They've been waiting FOREVER to be able to spar "for real" in their new karate class and with their new belt levels they were able to participate.  Since all the kids in the class are of orange rank or higher now they spent just about the whole class sparring.  My boys were in heaven.  They were not at all intimidated; even when they had to spar with a black belt master.  They learned all the rules of sparring, they remembered to combine hits and techniques, they learned how to point spar (and they even all got a turn to judge and award points).  They talked about it almost the whole way home.  We also talked about the family that the karate school sponsors and what we're going to buy for the kids to help make their Christmas great.  My boys can't wait to shop and help pick out some really great gifts for these kids (whom they don't even know!!).  I just love that I get to spend so much time with my happy, sweet boys!
