Our morning was pretty busy and the boys told me they didn't want to do any school today. Alec told me they all needed a break. Of course, I know learning never ends whether I'm teaching them or not so I never mind not teaching. The boys cleaned their rooms, folded and put away laundry and made their own breakfasts this morning. They also helped pack the car and plan our lunches for today too. They played outside for a good portion of the morning, battled with Beyblades for a bit and then watched an episode of Mythbusters that they had taped last night. This episode was all about germs, hand washing and public bathrooms; what could be better for three little boys to watch?
We checked out our penny experiment from yesterday and found that the pennies turned green. I explained that the acid in the vinegar set off a chemical reaction with the copper that turned it green. I explained that it's a similar reaction that caused the statue of liberty to be green also. All my boys had thought that she was painted green but I told them she was originally made of copper.
We headed out for a fun beach/ park play date with our homeschool group. We were meeting at a local lake and the older two boys already had bathing suits on with the intention of swimming. They swam, ran, hiked, biked, played and yelled. It was such a wonderful afternoon. Relaxing with our friends, making plans for the weeks and month to come, comparing homeschooling notes and realizing that kids and parents are all pretty much alike when it comes right down to it.
